Detachment

Today I added hemp seed oil to my juices (the apple/spinach) for the first time. I have to say I was pretty thrilled! It added an incredible dimension of..nuttiness, and the way the oil separated on the top of the juice created a different degree of the flavor with each sip. It was really enjoyable.

I find that, over all, I'm savoring my juices longer, drinking them more slowly, and being more in the present moment both while nourishing my body and from day to day. I feel like I'm stopping to enjoy the moment all of the time...sitting on the subway, walking through the supermarket, or standing -- jaw agape -- in absolute disbelief of 25 students who never cease to amaze. Yoga has really helped with this...pausing to notice, reflect, and breathe, on the good and bad.

This overall shift to what feels like an enjoyably slower pace (its incredible these 1-2 minute long pauses will also do for your stress levels), is really important for emotional eating issues. I've noticed so far that I no longer experiences urges to eat when I'm stressed out (even as a raw foodist I never thought I'd be able to say this -- ever). The weird food dreams have stopped as well, and I'm thinking about food a lot less over all, 10 days into the feast.

I so look forward to the continuation of this detachment from food. I'm not craving solids any more, I've shifted away from even thinking about food when I'm stressed, and my day feels so much more relaxed and laid back now that I'm taking time for these little reflective pauses. I'm hoping this relaxed feeling will flow over into my transition back to solid food. Eating more slowly, savoring my food, recognizing true hunger, and staying hydrated are things I'm sure I'll have an easier time with as a result of my feast...I feel as if I'm re-setting the biological food clock that has been spinning out of control for the past two decades. :)

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. I'm caught up with your blog. I appreciate you postings and totally relate to a lot of stuff you talked about!
I too cut myself with my new cleaver the other night opening coconuts! I couldn't f'n believe it! I had already been in the kitchen for 2+ hours juicing, but I was jonsin for some of that good coconut water!
OK, I'm super duper tired now. I just wanted to say hello!
